Limits and credits

Rate limits, sizes and what each call costs.

Rate limits

API key	60 requests a minute per key
Connected app (Sign in with Pekto)	120 requests a minute per app and user

Over the limit you get 429 rate_limit_exceeded with Retry-After: 60. Wait and retry; generation calls that hit the limit aren’t charged.

Credits

Generate a presentation or carousel (POST /presentations, create_presentation)	2.5 credits
Everything else (reading, editing, scheduling, listing)	Free

Credits are reserved when generation starts and refunded if it fails before the project is saved. Check your balance with GET /account. When the balance is too low you get 402 insufficient_credits with your balance, the cost and an upgrade link.

What the API doesn’t do yet

• Upload files (PDFs, images) for generation: paste the text into content instead
• Fill picture slots with stock or AI images: carousels keep the theme’s sample photos, which you can swap in the editor
• Export PDF, PPTX or PNG: export from the editor
• Connect social accounts: connect them in the Pekto app
